Rangers teen Nathan Patterson has admitted his stunning rise to the Scotland squad for Euro 2020 has been “surreal” after becoming the youngest player ever to be picked to represent Scotland at a major tournament.

The right-back has impressed at Ibrox since making the breakthrough under Steven Gerrard, forcing his way into contention for the Euros with a string on eye-catching performances as skipper James Tavernier recovered from injury.
Patterson was part of the Scotland under-21s squad when Clarke’s senior side secured their place at the Euros, calling it “mad” how quickly things have changed for him since then.
“It’s mad. When we were with the 21s we were watching the boys qualify,” Patterson told the Daily Record.

“Being a part of the squad now, it’s a bit of a surreal moment.
“It’s been great, a dream come true to be a Scotland ‘A’ player.
“But now I’m here. It’s been good meeting all the boys. They’ve been great with me.
“I’ve been sitting having a chat with a few of them, getting to know them. It’s been great.”
Scotland boss’ Euro 2020 selection dilemma
The defender should make his debut for Scotland in one of the two pre-tournament friendlies against Luxembourg and the Netherlands and will be hoping he can get some action in the finals itself.

Despite his limited appearances for Rangers, Patterson has really impressed when called upon by Gerrard and is sure to give Steve Clarke a selection headache for the Euros.
With only Stephen O’Donnell as competition for a start, Patterson could well end up coming back from the Euros as Scotland’s first-choice right back.
