It’s shaping up to be the saga of the summer, the recruitment at Ibrox seems to be a smooth operation and we have already seen Ross Wilson proving how good he is in this arena, as yet though, we haven’t seen how much he can bring in for key players with Alfredo Morelos drawing admiring glances from Porto.
One man who knows the Portuguese giants well is former Gers player and all round legend of the game Bruno Alves, a wrong place, wrong time spell in Light Blue aside, he is well placed to offer an opinion on what our Colombian international is worth, as reported by The Daily Record:
“Given his quality and what he’s been doing in the last few years then I would say the reported fee of £20m isn’t a lot for Alfredo Morelos.
“It’s still a lot of money for Porto to pay but if you want that kind of quality then that’s what you have to pay so it’s the right price for him right now.
“If Porto want to buy him then they have to pay good money because he’s a player with a lot of value and is a Colombian international.
“In today’s market then £20m isn’t a lot but for Porto it’s a lot. They don’t pay big fees like Benfica for example.
“Porto and Benfica are different clubs with a different strategy. If Porto pay £20m then they are thinking about how much they can increase the value to sell him on.
“I’m not inside the club just now so I don’t know if they want Morelos to keep him for a long time or to sell on for a profit.
“I don’t know what their motivation is for the transfer but if they pay this money then I believe he’s worth it.”
If big Bruno believes he’s “worth it” having played with some incredible players in his time, who am I to disagree? In fact, our sporting director should maybe consider bringing him along to negotiations such is the case that he presents.
How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?
He’s right, £20m isn’t a lot for a player with Morelos’s record, it shouldn’t matter who wants to buy him, that’s the price, stump up or look somewhere else.
