It was stated earlier today that Rangers are keeping tabs on Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet, with a view to a move.
The report came from the Daily Record, leading with Russian interest from Spartak Moscow and Krasnodar toward the 24-year old who notched up 14 goals across the Premiership campaign last season.
However, the mention of Rangers comes in the last three lines of the piece:
“There is growing interest in the impressive 24-year-old on both sides of the border.”
“He has been recommended to new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou but he has yet to signal his intent.”
“Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is also an admirer but is unlikely to move unless he sells on one of his own strikers.”
Radar
On that basis, it is fair to assume that there is very little to this speculation.
Of course, Steven Gerrard, Ross Wilson and the scouting team will be monitoring players across the Scottish Premiership including Kevin Nisbet.
With Fashion Sakala arriving to bolster the Ibrox attack, Gerrard effectively has five striking options so it is correct to say there will be no likely further movement until such a time that a departure occurs.
If and when it does happen, Nisbet won’t fit the bill.
As much as he is talented and has shown his increasing worth for Hibs and Scotland across recent times, Rangers will not be paying over the odds for unproven potential at a time when the step up to the next level is an imperative one for the Scottish champions.
