When Frank de Boer scored for Rangers

On Sunday evening, Frank de Boer’s Netherlands side got their EURO2020 campaign off to a flyer in a frantic goalfest as they won 3-2 against Ukraine.

The Dutchman is having a very colourful management career to date, following on from a terrific playing career – from his glory days at Ajax and Barcelona, to a brief spell at Ibrox under Alex McLeish in 2004 when he teamed up with his twin brother Ronald.

In 15 appearances in the second half of that 2003/04 season, Frank scored two goals for Rangers, including this one at Pittodrie in a 1-1 February stalemate.

At 33, Frank joined Ronald in Glasgow following his time in Turkey with Galatasaray.

On the move he stated,

“I’m happy to join my brother again. We were together for nine years at Ajax and two at Barcelona.”

He finished his playing days in Qatar, winding down a playing career which included 112 caps and 13 goals for the Netherlands.
