Scottish champions Rangers value Oli McBurnie at £15 million as Sheffield United face the prospect of making a loss on their one-time record signing, as reported by The Star.

The Scotland international striker has never hid his admiration for the blue-clad club from south of the River Clyde.

Leeds-born McBurnie admitted during an interview with Open Goal podcast last year he and his brother were Rangers fanatics from birth.

So, with Steven Gerrard’s newly crowned champions weighing up a summer swoop for the former Swansea City talisman, not even the most rose-tinted Sheffield United supporter could begrudge McBurnie should he seal a dream move to his boyhood club this summer.

Are Rangers dreams about to come true for McBurnie?

The Daily Mail reports Sheffield United value McBurnie at £15 million – £5 million less than the fee they paid Swansea for his signature two years ago.

And, according to the Star, Rangers would have no qualms about parting with a sum that would see the 24-year-old replace Tore Andre Flo as the most expensive acquisition in the club’s history.

Whether McBurnie will find a place in the Ibrox history books, however, is another question entirely.

Lack of goals for Sheffield United and Scotland

A physical throwback of a centre-forward, McBurnie scored just once in 23 Premier League games last season as Sheffield United finished bottom of the table. He has also yet to open his account at international level, 16 games into his Scotland career.

McBurnie would, however, give Steven Gerrard a different sort of threat in the final third with his fearsome aerial presence.
