Rangers star sends rallying call to Ibrox teammates ahead of massive Old Firm clash

Rangers veteran Steven Davis has sent a rallying call to his Ibrox teammates ahead of tomorrow’s Old Firm clash with Celtic at Ibrox, insisting it can ‘lay down a marker’ in the title race.

Both sides of the Old Firm have already lost in the league in their opening three games and Davis knows the winners tomorrow will get a big mental lift from taking three points from their rivals.

The Rangers star is one of only two Ibrox players to have experience of defending the title in Scotland so has been over the course before, calling tomorrow’s lunchtime showdown a “massive game for everybody.”

“It gives you an opportunity to lay down a marker,” Davis said.

“We all know, we have spoken many times about it, the psychological boost that it can give to the team.

“I am sure it won’t have a bearing on the overall standings come the end of the season in terms of the real significance of it.

“But it is a massive game for everybody.

“It’s the first one of the season and you want to get off to a good start in these games.”

Rangers should be boosted by the return of several players following Thursday’s Europa League clash in Armenia with the likes of Kemar Roofe back from suspension and Niko Katic and Juninho Bacuna available for selection.

It is unclear whether any of those who missed out on Thursday due to Covid issues will be free to return to face Celtic but that would also be a massive lift for the champions.
