Rangers star Glen Kamara is amongst the club’s most sellable assets and whilst the Gers try to tie him down on a new deal, Newcastle United are the latest name to be linked.

The Magpies – owned by familiar Rangers foe and High St billionaire Mike Ashley – are reportedly looking to bolster their Premier League squad ahead of the new campaign.

Finnish international Glen, 25, has been linked by TEAMtalk as the Toon Army become the latest in a long-line of Premier League sides mentioned alongside the player.

Arsenal, Everton and Brighton are amongst those who’ve most prominently been linked in the past but as things stand, Rangers have an offer on the table for the player.

According to Steven Gerrard, this has satisfied the player’s representatives and it is up to Glen himself whether or not he signs on the dotted line [Rangers].

Speculation is likely to persist regarding Kamara until the end of the window – which is when we’ll likely see his future settled one way or another – but Newcastle are an interesting mention.

Not least because in the same TEAMtalk report, there are conflicting claims from manager Steve Bruce which suggest the St James’ Park club’s business is done for the window.

“If we do a loan deal there is then no room in the squad without leaving somebody out. It is a difficult situation as well with finances,” said Bruce.

“If there is a loan deal (possible for a player) who can help us that is what we will try and do. But, as for bringing in somebody permanently, I can say that is probably not going to happen.

“There is still a little bit of work to do but it has been difficult for all the clubs all summer. I have never known it so quiet and difficult for a lot of clubs with finances.”

These links also come at a time when Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff looks set to head to Aberdeen on loan.

According to the Daily Record, the Dons could beat Huddersfield Town, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers to the loan signing of the 21-year-old.

Might this free up a bit of space in Steve Bruce’s side in the middle of the park?

Rangers might have some irons in the fire themselves heading into the final few days of the window with one Serbian talent or particular interest.
