Rangers captain James Tavernier has admitted it’s been “great to see six of his Ibrox teammates representing their country this summer at Euro 2020 and Copa America – with the Ibrox skipper delighted to see Nathan Patterson make his competitive debut for Scotland at the Euros.

Patterson was joined in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad at Euro 2020 by Jon McLaughlin with Rangers colleagues Glen Kamara (Finland), Filip Helander (Sweden) and Borna Barisic (Croatia) all playing a part at the finals while Alfredo Morelos is hoping to fire Colombia to Copa America glory.

After coming off the bench for Scotland, Patterson became the youngest player ever to wear the dark blue at a major tournament and Tavernier confessed it was “so good” to see the teen be given his chance at international level, telling Rangers TV: “It has been great to see.

“Unfortunately, Jon and Nathan couldn’t make it past the group stage, but it was so good to see Nathan making his international competitive debut in a Euros.”

Massive season ahead for Patterson at Rangers

After making his international debut, Patterson has a huge 12 months ahead of him as he goes head-to-head with Tavernier for a starting place at Ibrox.

The Rangers defender is going to be an important player for the Light Blues for years to come so the Gers need to make sure they don’t just run him into the ground early and waste the massive potential Patterson has.

With a taste of competitive international football under his belt now too, the Ibrox full-back will be aiming to become first-choice for club and country in the coming months.
