Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was once again left in the stands as Colombia’s place in the last eight of Copa America was confirmed – despite losing 2-1 to hosts Brazil.
El Bufalo has only had one, brief, appearance for his country at South America’s showpiece international tournament despite Colombian legends James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao missing out.
The Rangers star’s only action so far came in the defeat by Peru, coming off the bench for the last ten minutes as Colombia chased an equaliser before he was bombed out of the matchday squad completely for the Brazil clash.

Luis Diaz’ strike had Colombia ahead after 10 minutes before Roberto Firminho sparked a late comeback with a controversial equaliser with 12 minutes left.

After the ball struck the referee, it fell kindly to the hosts who eventually found the net, sparking several minutes of protests from Morelos’ Colombia teammates.
With the game looking like ending a draw, Brazil netted a late, late winner as Casemiro scored ten minutes into the twelve minutes of injury time added on at the end of the second 45.
Despite losing two of their four group games, Colombia’s place in the next round is assured and Morelos will be hoping he can add to his 11 caps for his country so far.
The Rangers striker has proven he is more than capable of competing at level needed to impress at Copa America but coach Reinaldo Rueda hasn’t given him a chance to show what he can do.
