Rangers should make move for Jack Wilshere following release from club – TBR View - The Boot Room

The transfer window is yet to officially open, though that hasn’t stopped Rangers from conducting business already.

Steven Gerrard’s side have already acquired Zambian attacker Fashion Sakala on a free transfer. And Oli McBurnie has also been linked with a transfer as reported by the Daily Mail.

With UEFA Champions League football on the cards next season, Rangers will need all the quality they can sign. And a move for former target Jack Wilshere could be a sensible option for the Scottish champions.

A sensible signing in a deprived market

The former Arsenal and West Ham maestro is a free agent after being released by AFC Bournemouth last week. Wilshere made 15 appearances for the Cherries this season, starting nine games and scoring once and assisting another.

After an injury-free season, Wilshere, who has played in the Champions League, could be a smart signing for Rangers.

Indeed, Wilshere himself has admitted in the past via Rangers News that he wants to play for Steven Gerrard.

Although his injury record would make some fans sceptical, there’s no denying that the former West Ham midfielder would improve the creative quality of the team.

A good track record of left-field signings

Rangers also have a good track record in recent years of signing players from corners of the English market that not many teams would have considered.

Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo have flourished into outstanding members of Gerrard’s team since arriving in Glasgow, and there’s no denying that Wilshere, with his international and continental experience, would be a great addition to this squad.

Jermain Defoe is also another name who Rangers have added to the squad in the past 18 months who was plucked from the Championship and has since gone on to succeed under Gerrard.

Wilshere might be seen as an expensive free agent signing with an injury record to make you squeal.

But with the Rangers squad filled with quality and Gerrard likely to be open to signing players who have competed in the Champions League, the former Bournemouth midfielder could be a solid option for the Scottish title winners.
