Rangers boss Steven Gerrard said that summer signing from Manchester United Charlie McCann would be assessed in the B team before a decision was made on his short-term future.

The Ibrox club moved for the midfielder this summer with the 19-year-old going into the Rangers second string upon his arrival in Glasgow.

But the player is already making waves with the Academy and has just been named in the SPFL Trophy’s Team of the Round after a stunning performance in the win over Dumbarton.

McCann never scored in the 3-2 victory for Rangers B over the League One club but was certainly unlucky not to as he was denied by Dumbarton goalie Callum Erskine.

The player was an influential presence throughout the match and has already begun to make an impression on the team, setting up Tony Weston’s third goal in the game.

Rangers B will now face off against Ayr United in the next round of the competition.

The recognition obviously meant a lot to McCann himself as he took to Twitter to celebrate after victory in the SPFL Trophy, which is the latest incarnation of the Challenge Cup.
