Rangers B coach hails Ibrox teens after 1-0 win extends 100% start

Rangers B made it three wins out of three in the Lowland League yesterday to send them top of the table on goal difference from Dalbeattie Star – and head coach David McCallum was pleased to see his side come through their toughest test so far with three points.

Cole McKinnon’s lovely strike shortly before the break was the difference between the two sides at a sun-drenched Falkirk Stadium as the Rangers youngsters put in a fantastic performance against an experienced Shire team.

McCallum thinks his side were good value for their lead at the break – the Gers could have been three or four up by halftime – and was pleased with how his players handled the challenge presented by the Falkirk side.

“That was a tough game. I think the standard has proven to be what we expected and the games are becoming quite challenging,” McCallum told Rangers TV.

“I think we deserved to be 1-0 up in the first half, I think in the second half we had to be resilient and we had to defend our box a lot. East Stirlingshire tried to press us and their energy in the second half went up a couple of levels. Nothing is going to be straightforward and it’s good that is the way it’s going to be.

“I think it wasn’t just a physical challenge but a football challenge tactically and technically as well. More importantly, it was the performance from the guys. If we get the performance right we have a better chance of getting the result.

“I think every part of our team, individually and as a group, were challenged today and it was pleasing that we came through in the end.”

Rangers B are silencing critics with impressive displays so far

While it is still very early days so far, three wins from three – with three clean sheets thrown in too – is an excellent start for Rangers B.

The young Gers are quickly silencing critics of the Colts pilot and proving why it makes sense to allow teams to field a Colt side in the league.

Whether they go on and secure the title this season is anyone’s guess but there can be little doubt that coming up against experienced pros is going to help the best young talents in Scotland succeed.
