Rangers and Celtic have discovered who they will face in the second round of the Premier Sports Cup after the group stage was completed yesterday evening – and both sides of the Old Firm have been handed a home draw.
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will host Championship side Dunfermline Athletic while Ange Postecoglou will get his first taste of domestic cup football since taking over at Celtic when they welcome Hearts.
Aberdeen, Hibs and St Johnstone also entered at the second round, owing to their involvement in European football, with all three drawing Championship sides.
St. Johnstone won the trophy last season as Callum Davidson’s side pulled off an incredible cup double but Rangers and Celtic will both be aiming to bring the trophy back to Glasgow.
Having disappointed in the cups so far, Gerrard has made no secret of his desire to see his side perform better in both the Scottish Cup and League Cup and a home tie against the Pars should see the Gers ease into the next round.
