Mikel Arteta shares what he told Arsenal players and staff about Rangers

Rangers played host to Arsenal in a pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon, with Mikel Arteta making an emotional return to Ibrox.

Both teams are gearing up for big seasons.

The Gers are in Champions League action this season and will be hoping to win another league title after last season’s success.

As for Arsenal, they have no European football and need to finish in the top six this coming season for Mikel Arteta to realistically keep his job.

On Saturday, the two sides faced off at Ibrox in a pre-season friendly, with a 2-2 draw being played out in Glasgow.

Leon Balogun put Rangers ahead before Nuno Tavares equalised, and when Cedric Itten had Rangers back in front, Eddie Nketiah rescued a draw.

Rangers ace Glen Kamara faced off against his former club, whilst Arsenal boss Arteta was making his return to Rangers after 17 years away.

Arteta joined as a player Rangers in 2002, making 68 appearances and scoring 14 goals before heading off to Real Sociedad in 2004.

Arteta has now told Rangers TV that he was speaking to his players and staff about how ‘incredible’ it was to play for Rangers, and admitted that he still looks out for Rangers’ results having enjoyed his time there so much.

“It’s great to be back,” said Arteta. “I told the players and my staff that what I experienced here as a player with Rangers was incredible. It’s a shame they could not experience a full house themselves because it would have been a great day for them.”

“But I’m so happy to see how Rangers have turned around the situation they were in. I always keep an eye on their results,” he added.
