Gers “90% done” deal confusion, it’s all gone quiet

For a transfer that was 90% done, it isn’t half taking a long time to be completed.

It seems that long ago but in January, speculation was rife that we were about to sign our second Colombian striker from Finland with FC Honka’s Juan Alegria being lined up for a potential move, even Steven Gerrard confirmed that there was interest there, as reported by The Daily Record:

“It’s slightly different. We are well aware of the player and his talent. We are always looking to recruit right through the club.

“This is something the academy has had a closer eye on than myself but we are very much aware of the boy. There is something in that one but there is nothing to report on it as of yet.”

The player’s dad was the one responsible for claiming that a move to Ibrox was imminent when he told press in his homeland that:

“In this moment, we are 90 per cent sure that Rangers will be the next team for Juan.”

But, it’s all gone quiet.

The last we heard from Alegria was in February when the 18-year old striker posted on Instagram that he was watching Rangers 4-3 win over Royal Antwerp, supporting compatriot Alfredo Morelos in the process, there have been other social media hints but, as yet, nothing has been confirmed by either party and he continues to be a Honka player.

He is contracted until 2022 so we would have to pay a fee for him, it’s just strange how a deal that appeared to be so close to completion has drifted into obscurity, Brexit could be a factor but surely either party would have made some sort of announcement if that was the case?

One to keep an eye on and, as seems to be the case nowadays, your best bet is to follow the player’s social media accounts, you never know, he might post a picture of himself arriving at Glasgow airport…
