Rangers look to have tied down one of their brightest academy prospects after reports claimed that Josh McPake is set to sign a two-year extension to his deal that expires next summer.
Vital Rangers covered the initial story last week but it now appears to be just a matter of time for the announcement is made, as explained by Glasgow Live:
“Josh McPake is set to pen a new two-year contract at Rangers. The teenage striker is set to join Morecambe on a season-long loan and his Ibrox deal is set to run out next summer.
“But Steven Gerrard sees potential in McPake and is keen to get him tied down beyond then and it’s understood that an extension is on the verge of being agreed that will keep him in Govan until 2024.
“A temporary switch that would have given McPake Scottish Premiership experience looked to be on the cards earlier this summer with both Livingston and Motherwell keen on doing a deal.
“But Morecambe have won the race, also beating off competition from Doncaster, Oldham and Tranmere Rovers.”
McPake will presumably go straight into the slot left behind by Carlos Mendes Gomes after the one-time Gers target signed for Luton Town with a focus on upping his numbers from his time at Harrogate Town in the second half of last season where he managed to contribute with four goals in 23 appearances.
How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?
At 19-years old he has plenty of time to develop but a productive year in League 1 could see him force his way into Steven Gerrard’s thinking – it’s not a bad incentive is it?
