GEORGE EDMUNDSON admits tiredness started to creep in against Partick Thistle as Rangers got their pre-season schedule off to a winning start on Monday night.
The champions returned to action with a 1-0 victory at Firhill thanks to a late Cedric Itten strike that came just minutes after James Tavernier had missed from the penalty spot.
Boss Steven Gerrard fielded two different outfield line-ups against the Jags as keeper Robby McCrorie was the only player to get 90 minutes under his belt.
Edmundson partnered Jack Simpson during the first 45 minutes as a number of Gers kids were given the chance to impress in the first fixture of the campaign.
And the Englishman was pleased with a useful outing ahead of the second friendly away to Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

Edmundson told RangersTV: “It was a good run-out for us. We had a double session on Sunday so the gaffer has obviously deliberately made us a bit fatigued.
“In the first week there’s a lot of running but as the weeks go on we go more into the tactical and football side of things.

“I thought I came through the game okay, with the running on Sunday afternoon we were bit tired. We hadn’t played for a while but it was good to get 45 minutes.
“For the defence it is good to get a clean sheet. All week we had been learning about little patterns of play for the game and some of them came off.
“As defenders, even if it is a friendly or a big game, we always want a clean sheet.
“If you get them in pre-season then it sets you up for the season ahead.

“The game against Tranmere will be a good game though.
“You have to be positive with the younger players.
“They are all good players, if they weren’t they wouldn’t be training with us.
“We know how good they can be so it is about us helping them and getting them through games.”
